Origin and Meaning
The word dhyana is commonly translated as "meditation" or "contemplation." It derives from the root dhyai, which means to reflect or become absorbed in observation. In this state, the mind remains conscious, yet free from the constant flow of thoughts.
Purpose of Dhyana
Deepening concentration: Attention becomes continuous and stable, without interruptions.
Unifying body and mind: Perception is focused on the present, with no separation between the observer and the observed.
Cultivating inner serenity: Mental silence becomes a space of clarity and understanding.
Dhyana in Modern Life
Although achieving a deep state of meditation requires constant practice, its essence can be integrated into daily life.
