Peace and well-being in motion
The Eight Limbs of Yoga - The Complete path
The eight limbs of yoga are:
1. Yamas – Ethics toward others
Universal principles of respect, compassion, and balance in our relationship with the world.
2. Niyamas – Personal discipline
Inner practices of purity, gratitude, discipline, and surrender.
3. Asana – Physical postures
Caring for the body as the vehicle of practice. Beyond flexibility, asanas aim for stability and comfort to support meditation.
4. Pranayama – Breath control
The art of directing vital energy (prana) through conscious breathing. It calms the mind and balances the emotions.
5. Pratyahara – Withdrawal of the senses
The ability to turn attention inward, no longer dominated by external stimuli. It is the bridge between outer and inner practice.
6. Dharana – Concentration
The mind focuses on a single point (an object, the breath, a mantra), developing stability and clarity.
7. Dhyana – Meditation
When concentration flows without interruption, meditation arises: an experience of deep silence and awareness.
8. Samadhi – Union or absorption
The highest state, where the separation between self and object dissolves. It is the experience of wholeness, freedom, and connection with the absolute.
